Шахноз Абдуллаева и её творчество

В последнее время я стала замечать, что есть какая-то взаимосвязь между художником и образами, созданными его рукой. Взаимосвязь не только духовная, но и внешняя. Так случилось, что когда я увидел Шахноз, меня восхитил её внешний облик: то, как она одета, как держит себя при общении с собеседником. Словно, она сошла с полотна, созданного ею самой же.

Ни один раз, просматривая экспозиции в Галерее Изобразительного Искусства Узбекистана, видела полотна Шахноз Абдуллаевой, невольно сравнивая их с иконописными фресками Буддистских монастырей и фресками Пенджикента. Выходит, я не ошиблась в своих предчувствиях. Творчество Шахноз Абдуллаевой питает свою творческую энергию от древних мастеров Бакрии и Кушанского царства.

Is it possible to imagine a more vivid symbol of Central Asia than the face of a shy maiden of glorious beauty, wrapped in precious silks, radiating a sense of heavenly bliss... How often the works of artists are a mirror image of their own inner essence - and the works of Shakhnoz Abdullaeva, like a unique kaleidoscope, conjure up a picture of this amazing woman with the soft smile. And as you look at it, you begin to believe in the world she has created of angels and eastern princesses...

Shakhnoz Abdullaeva's name is well known to connoisseurs of modern Uzbek art. Against the background of the symbolic-metaphoric school, quite popular in the art world, her canvases are immediately recognizable - thanks to favorite groupings of images developed during her years of work, and the meditative tone of her canvasses which fascinate the onlooker with their ornamentation and the richness of her palette... 

Her artistic journey began at the end of the 1980s, when the attempt to identify a national school of art was once again high on the agenda for Uzbekistan's artists.

The Еast, wrapped in mystery, reveling in the spice of life and a painting technique of exquisite linearity, became a leading theme. Shakhnoz's creative work has developed, however, not so much under the influence of contemporary trends but as a result of the circumstances of her personal life - she grew up in the home of Chingiz Akhmarov, the outstanding muralist, painter and graphic artist, whose career stood as an example of the freedom of creative self-expression. It was Akhmarov who inspired Shakhnoz with love for the artistic heritage of East and West. She made her first choice with his blessing when she turned to the style of medieval frescos. The ceremonial scenes of feasts and royal receptions, mystical tribal dances and sacred rituals,seemingly taking place in an atmosphere outside of time - these characteristics give frescos their inimitable charm. One of Shakhnoz's first works of this series was "Ajanta," devoted to the Indian cave temples and monasteries. This was the origin, Buddhist paintings, of her device of depicting angels and goddesses with blue faces in her works - an allusion to their divine favor, the embodiment of a connection with a higher, heavenly world. The historictic legacy has served as a constant source of inspiration for Shakhnoz and encouraged her to dive into the mysteries of ancient religions, webs of mythical and poetical subjects. Inspired by ancient paintings, she creates pictures devoted to forgotten heroes who were always young and beautiful.

The theme of Navruz holds a special place in her work as well this ancient spring festival-the symbol of nature renewing itself, epitomized in themes dedicated to feminine beauty. Shakhnoz romanticizes the past; she portrays her own perception of long-gone historic events, while paying particular attention to decorative possibilities, the rhythm of poses, gestures and silhouettes. As an artist she experiments, drawing on techniques from fresco painting and oriental miniatures, and from these motifs of applied art - the patterns of Sogdian textiles or Ferghana region carpets, or the moire pattern of famous ikat silks. Incorporated in the composition, they create the effect of "recognition," associating the work with one or another cultural tradition. The interpretation of different elements of the artistic heritage occasionally means that expressive texture and refined color combinations make up for a mysterious environment beyond history, where any association is valid. This creative relationship to one's heritage makes it possible to see a creative dialogue in her works between tradition and the artist in which they participate as equals. Shakhnoz considered to be a virtuoso of tempera, which always helps expressively to create the effect of frescos seemingly touched by time. The paint spreading on the canvas, as if splashed on, makes for an unusual texture: spots of contrasting colors fuse with one another without losing their own resonance, and give the composition a rhythm in which mysterious forms, silent and imperturbable, suddenly appear out of a magical haze of color...

Chingiz Akhmarov (Famous Russian/Uzbek artist) was often surprised looking at Shakhnoz's works: "What's important for me in the exactness of the line, but on your canvasses it's the harmony of color."

Yes, their works truly unite a poetic understanding of life, an aura of contemplation and tranquility, yet they are also very different - the painterly effect of the one stands in opposition to the exact drawing of the other. Thoughtful study of the culture and myths of the East became an important step in defining the development of Shakhnoz's creative individuality. She is drawn to search for representations and symbols capable of infinitely expanding the circle of associations connected to them

Shakhnoz Abdullaeva was born in 1965 in the art capital of Central Asia city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In 1989 she graduated from The Theatrical Art Institute of Ostrovsky. Shakhnoz has been an active participant in international art exhibitions since 1988, and her original paintings can be found in both private and national collections.

2) “Navruz. Dancing girls” was painted in tempera paints on canvas. The painting depicts the new year holiday celebrated by the Zoroastrians known as Navruz (Or: Nowruz [nouˈɾuːz]; literally "New Day") which is celebrated on the 21^st day of March.

Novruz is the name of the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide not only by Iranian people but also in Central Asia and Kazakhstan, along with some other ethno-linguistic groups, as the beginning of the New Year.

«Bibi-Khanum in the Gardens of Timur» was painted in tempera and oil paints on canvas.

Bibi-Khanum or Saray Mulk Khanum (1343 – 1406) was the Grand Empress of the Timurid Empire as the chief consort of Timur the Lame — a Turco-Mongol conqueror and the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia and also the first ruler in the Timurid dynasty. By birth, Saray Mulk Khanum was a princess of the Chagatai Khanate as a daughter of Qazan Khan ibn Yasaur and was also a direct descendant of Genghis Khan. Bibi-Khanum was known as a wise and strong woman who would favourably influence over his royal husband.

In the picture you can see the moment of her appearance in the garden with her maid of honour.

Thinking of Timur the Lame, I cannot help remembering of what Walt Whitman, an American poet and publicist, says, namely: “A man is great on earth and through the ages, but every iota of his greatness has grown from a woman”.

Биби-Ханум или Сарай Мульк Ханум (1343 — 1406) имела титул Великий Императрицы империи Тимуридов также была главной супругой Тамерлана — турко-монгольского завоевателя и основателя империи Тимуридов в Персии и Средней Азии, а также первого правителя династии Тимуридов. По рождению Сарай Мульк ханум была принцессой Чагатайского улуса и дочерью Казан-Хана, который был  прямым потомком Чингисхана. Биби-Ханым слыла женщиной мудрой и сильной, которая благотворно влияла на своего царственного мужа. В картине она изображена в момент своего появления в саду с ее фрейлинами.

Думая о Тамерлане, я не могу не вспомнить о том, что Уолт Уитмен, американский поэт и публицист, говорит, а именно: «Мужчина велик на земле и в веках, но каждая йота его величия выросла из женщины».

“Chach dancers or “The Visit to the Chinese Princess” is painted in oil paints on canvas.

On the site of the present-day Tashkent — the capital of Uzbekistan, was the ancient city of Chach, who used to be one of the main items throughout the Great Silk Road. Chach was famous for its dancers, especially different from others with its grace and plasticity. A Chach grandee sends gifts to Chinese princess in order to establish diplomatic relations. Among the gifts there were also those wonderful dancers depicted in the picture.

In an archaeological excavation a Chach dancer wooden sculpture was found. Inspired by its grace, I decided to paint this picture.

Картина «Чачские танцовщицы» или «Визит китайской принцессы» написана масляными красками на холсте.

На месте нынешнего Ташкента — столицы Узбекистана, располагался античный город Чач, который был одним из основных пунктов на всем протяжении Великого шелкового пути. Чач славился своими танцовщицами, особенно отличавшимися своей грацией и пластикой. Некий чачский вельможа посылает дары  китайской принцессе в целях налаживания   дипломатических отношений. В числе даров были также и эти прекрасные танцовщицы, изображенные на картине.

В археологических раскопках была найдена деревянная статуэтка/скульптура чачской танцовщицы. Вдохновившись ее изяществом, я написала эту картину.

1) «Bibi-Khanum in the Gardens of Timur» is painted in tempera and oil paints on canvas. Bibi-Khanum or Saray Mulk Khanum (1343 – 1406) was the Grand Empress of the Timurid Empire as the chief consort of Timur the Lame — a Turco-Mongol conqueror and the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia and also the first ruler in the Timurid dynasty. By birth, Saray Mulk Khanum was a princess of the Chagatai Khanate as a daughter of Qazan Khan ibn Yasaur and was also a direct descendant of Genghis Khan. Bibi-Khanum was known as a wise and strong woman who would favourably influence over his royal husband. In the picture you can see the moment of her appearance in the garden with her maid of honour. Thinking of Timur the Lame, I cannot help remembering of what Walt Whitman, an American poet and publicist, says, namely: “A man is great on earth and through the ages, but every iota of his greatness has grown from a woman”.	1) «Биби-Ханым в садах Тимура» была написана темперными и масляными красками на холсте.  Биби-Ханум или Сарай Мульк Ханум (1343 — 1406) имела титул Великий Императрицы империи Тимуридов также была главной супругой Тамерлана — турко-монгольского завоевателя и основателя империи Тимуридов в Персии и Средней Азии, а также первого правителя династии Тимуридов. По рождению Сарай Мульк ханум была принцессой Чагатайского улуса и дочерью Казан-Хана, который был  прямым потомком Чингисхана. Биби-Ханым слыла женщиной мудрой и сильной, которая благотворно влияла на своего царственного мужа. В картине она изображена в момент своего появления в саду с ее фрейлинами. Думая о Тамерлане, я не могу не вспомнить о том, что Уолт Уитмен, американский поэт и публицист, говорит, а именно: «Мужчина велик на земле и в веках, но каждая йота его величия выросла из женщины».
2) “Navruz. Dancing girls” is painted in tempera paints on canvas. The painting depicts the new year holiday celebrated by the Zoroastrians known as Navruz (Or: Nowruz [nouˈɾuːz]; literally "New Day") which is celebrated on the 21st day of March. Novruz is the name of the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide not only by Iranian people but also in Central Asia and Kazakhstan, along with some other ethno-linguistic groups, as the beginning of the New Year.	2) Картина «Навруз. Пляшущие девушки» написана темперными красками на холсте. Картина изображает праздник нового года, отмечаемый зорастрийскими огнепоклонниками известный как Navruz, то есть «Новый год», который празднуется и в наши дни 21 марта. Новруз — название иранского нового года, также известный как Персидский Новый год, который отмечается во всем мире не только иранским народом, но и в Центральной Азии и Казахстане, а также некоторыми другими этно-лингвистическими группами, как начало нового года.
3) “Chach dancers or “The Visit to the Chinese Princess” is painted in oil paints on canvas. On the site of the present-day Tashkent — the capital of Uzbekistan, was the ancient city of Chach, who used to be one of the main items throughout the Great Silk Road. Chach was famous for its dancers, especially different from others with its grace and plasticity. A Chach grandee sends gifts to Chinese princess in order to establish diplomatic relations. Among the gifts there were also those wonderful dancers depicted in the picture. In an archaeological excavation a Chach dancer wooden sculpture was found. Inspired by its grace, I decided to paint this picture.	3) Картина «Чачские танцовщицы» или «Визит китайской принцессы» написана масляными красками на холсте. На месте нынешнего Ташкента — столицы Узбекистана, располагался античный город Чач, который был одним из основных пунктов на всем протяжении Великого шелкового пути. Чач славился своими танцовщицами, особенно отличавшимися своей грацией и пластикой. Некий чачский вельможа посылает дары  китайской принцессе в целях налаживания   дипломатических отношений. В числе даров были также и эти прекрасные танцовщицы, изображенные на картине. В археологических раскопках была найдена деревянная статуэтка/скульптура чачской танцовщицы. Вдохновившись ее изяществом, я написала эту картину.
